未熟な討論は、感情の対立や、わだかまりを残す。「人の和」を尊ぶため議論や討論をタブー視するのは問題だ。

アメリカ人（彼らだけではない）は「人の和」を保つために議論し、日本人は「人の和」を保つために議論を避ける。
アメリカ人は議論に強くなり、日本人は、当然、議論に弱くなる。日本人の沈黙は必ずしも同意ではない。
